After our latest update on potty training, I thought I should probably update on our other big boy adventure as well.
The boys have been in their big boy beds for eight nights now. The whole transition has gone a million times better than it did during our first attempt last summer. I guess almost three year olds are a bit more ready than almost two year olds!
But here is our dilemma. The boys go to bed quite easily- IF they don't nap. However, napless Paddock twins are just plain atrocious by about 4:00pm. And napless Paddock twin mama is just plain atrocious by about 5:00pm. So what that means is that starting next Monday, poor Jon will be getting home from work at about 4:30 each afternoon and he will be coming home to a napless and completely miserable family :/ Then we'll have to put the boys down by 7:00pm. On one hand, he'll only have to put up with the misery for approximately 3.5 hours. But on the other hand, he's going to have very little time with his boys each evening.
The flip-side of this dilemma is getting the boys to nap. Of the eight nights the beds have been up, we've got them to fall asleep for nap twice. The first day was while Jon was fishing. Caleb got sleepy on his own so when I realized that he was asleep, I had to resort to extreme tactics to get Matthew to sleep. Because any twin mama knows that the only thing worse than two no-nappers is ONE no-napper! So I jumped in bed with Matthew, pinned him down with one arm and yawned repeatedly with hopes that my subliminal messages would make him sleepy. We all woke up an hour and a half later. Matthew and I were in his bed, and Rigby was fast asleep on the bottom of Caleb's bed. Adorable- yes. But no one did the dishes or swept the floor! Two days ago was our second day of a successful nap and it was much of the same. Jon and I both laid down with them and I'm 99% certain that we were asleep long before the boys!! Apparently Jon and I are more succeptible to the yawning game than the boys are. But luckily they both fell asleep too. Because I'm pretty sure that the only thing worse than one no-napper is two napping parents and two no-napping totally unsupervised twin toddlers!!! Oy vei! I'm also pretty certain that in such a situation, my little "angels" would not have gotten up and washed the dishes or swept the floor!!!
So, overall the big boy bed adventure isn't going as badly as we anticipated... but we've still got some kinks to work out. Oh, and we should probably get a side rail for Caleb... he's fallen out twice :)
