3 Year Well-Visit

We had the boys' three year well-visit this evening- they are officially three now!!  And our tiny little mighty mights are hanging on to the bottom of that growth chart with all they've got!  Caleb weighed in at 26 pounds and 4 ounces and was 35.5 inches tall.  Matthew weighed 26 pounds and 3 ounces and was also 35.5 inches tall.  I think this was the first time ever that Caleb outweighed Matthew...  but it was only by 1 ounce which could have simply meant that Matthew had let out a fart while Caleb was holding one in  :)  They both fell in the 10th percentile for height and 3rd to 5th percentile for weight.  We never even made the weight charts until we were 2 years old, so hangin' in there right at the bottom is a-ok for this mommy!

Our doctor always has some insightful comment for us- something that walks the line between "Wow, I'm impressed!" and "Wow, I feel bad for you guys!"  Tonight's comment was "Gee, they're quite inquisitive aren't they?!"  This was after Caleb interrupted him by tugging on his pant leg and repeatedly saying "excuse me" until he was acknowledged.  He then asked "What does backfire mean?" after he had heard the doctor use the word while talking to Jon and I.  Two minutes later Matthew interrupted to ask what "set the world on fire" means.  The doctor asked if this "inquisitiveness" was their usual behavior and we had to admit that we are about at our wits end with it!  Lately the boys have to know what everything means.  And I mean EVERYTHING.  If they hear a word that they don't know, we have to stop to ask and explain.  They are particularly fond of figures of speech.  They catch them and know that the words are common but the concept seems off.  So we have to try to explain.  Such as "What does 'cup of tea' mean?" and my current favorite that they heard on the radio "What does 'screwed me over' mean?"  The trick is to not use additional unfamiliar words or figures of speech in the explanation or else you'll find yourself running circles around a tree while being chased by two toddlers!

Lastly, we had to end our appointment with our current pressing concerns.  Last time at their 2.5 year well-visit the boys had to ask if they were allowed to have more than one vitamin each day.  This time, they had to ask if they were allowed to pee in electrical outlets.  The sad thing was that this question didn't even catch the poor doctor off guard.  In these three short years, I think he's learning to expect the unexpected from our adorable little tots!  Well, that and he was Jon's doctor for 18 years  :)
