Headed towards Thanksgiving, I think our next two weeks will be full of turkeys. I've got lots of fun ideas for those cute little feathers!
Today we made name turkeys. The boys started by painting paper plates, which of course meant painting their hands and faces too. Thank goodness for Crayola washable paint! While the paint dried I had them count out the letters in their name, then count out the same number of colored feathers. Nothing like "adding" a touch of math to a craft! Each of the boys wrote their names across the feathers, then they had to help me arrange them in order to glue on to their turkey. I didn't give them any guides for their letters- they were totally on their own. It doesn't look like much, but I can see them progressing without guides! Lastly- they got to go to town with their bottles of glue. I love how they are learning where the different parts of a face go. When we first started some of our arts and crafts, they'd glue eyes on the chin and noses between the eyes! All in all it was a simple craft lesson- but we manged to incorporate counting, letter recognition, and writing along with some good fine motor practice. Gobble Gobble!!!!
