Today we did some counting and coloring with turkeys!  Matthew has kind of been into dot-to-dots lately, so I found a good turkey page for them to work on.  It was an excellent number recognition and sequencing exercise- I think we'll be doing many more of these in the near future!!!  Both of the boys were great up to 10 and while they verbally know which numbers come after 10, it was more difficult for them to recognize them in written form.  They let me help talk them through it until about 20, then they were bored!  I love how such simple activities like this help me as much as them- I'm really able to see their strengths and weaknesses and develop tomorrow's lessons accordingly!

To continue with number recognition, we did a color-by-number turkey next.  I had the boys read each color word and help me identify which color went with which number.  They were both excellent at "reading" the colorsjust based on the first letter or two!  LOL!  They were also both great at identifying which spaces to color in which colors based on the numbers, but the coloring skills weren't quite as great.  It was interesting though to see how they approached it differently.  Matthew kind of understood that he was supposed to color the whole space in the specific color whereas when Caleb heard the same directions of color the number 1 this color, the number 2 this color, etc., he literally colored only the number!  I couldn't tell him he was doing it wrong, because based on how he heard the directions, he was technically doing it just right  :)  Of course we got bored before we finished all the colors so I did push it.  Maybe we'll finish later!

Matthew working on his number sequencing
Caleb connecting the dots!
Caleb just colored the numbers- just the numbers!
Matthew took the more typical approach
Looks like we need more work on our higher numbers!
