We started our great California adventure at 5 am on Sunday! We flew out of Detroit at 6:55 am. The boys have become absolute pros at getting through security and at flying. W had a two and a half hour flight to Denver and they were both wonderful the whole way! W had a quick plane change and some time to go potty and eat lunch in Denver, then we headed for LA! Between waking up so early and the time changes, the boys were exhausted. They did their infamous fall asleep while sucking on their suckers during take off and both slept for a good hour or so on the second plane! Matthew laid sprawled out over two seats and Caleb fell asleep in my arms. I was able to hold him and sip my awful airplane coffee, which was actually quite enjoyable despite how bad the coffee was because I don't even remember the last time one of them slept in my arms. When we landed in LA it was only 10:00 am... We picked up our car and headed up to my aunt and unlcles where the boys were so happy to just sit and play!! Matthew made a beeline for the grapefruit tree and devoured a giant grapefruit immediately. A few minutes later we caught Caleb halfway up the tree trying to get his own grapefruit! It was so wonderful to se e our family again and the boys were so happy to just have some playtime with their trains that I was even able to sit and visit for most of the afternoon!
Sunday night was an early to bed night and then the boys managed to get up at 5 am! We had to be in Santa Monica at 10:45 yesterday for their GAP callback. The boys got ready easily and we left here at 8:30... Gotta love LA traffic! Teir audition went great... They were happy and cooperative, although I'm not sure they got great pictures of Matty because he did his cheesy fake smile! But it was a very positive experience and they both said they had fun! My mom and I got to see the largest gathering of LA's most beautiful children... And let me tell you, they were all just gorgeous! We only saw one other little white boy with blonde hair, but he was truly adorable!
After their audition, we went to the boys favorite California restaurant-Poqioto Mas- for lunch. There was one within walking distance of our condo over the summer and the boys loved it because they give kids a little ball of tortilla dough to play with while you wait for your food! After lunch we went down to the Santa Monica Pier. The boys got to play on the playground and dig in the sand for awhile. They are still not fans of the ocean, in fact maybe a bit less than last time even! We went up on the pier and the boys got to play with some parrots! On made a loud squeak in Caleb's lab and he wasn't a huge fan of that, but it was so much fun to see them holding and petting the birds! After awhile on the pier we headed up to Van Nuys to get the boys work permits renewed and te we tried to go to Suck It's in Studio City... Suck It's was the first and most important thing the boys wanted to do on this trip... And of course it was closed on Monday's! It was 3 pm, the boys hadn't napped, and the disappointment was almost too much for poor Matthew! He cried for a few moments, but pulled it together in time for us to walk across the street and get a cookie and mango smoothie from Aroma Cafe. By then it was time to head back "home" for the evening. My cousin Jeff came over for dinner and the boys just played so beautifully... Until dinner when they had a nuclear meltdown out of sheer exhaustion! So it was early to bed again and I was able to visit for a bit before all the grown ups went to bed early.
We finally did hear back from the casting assistant this morning. They loved the boys but said their sizes didn't work with the combination of kids they wanted. Which we knew was quite likely! A bummer for sure, but the boys represented themselves very well and had fun so that is truly all we can ask for!
