Headed back to Cali!

Well, after sharing yesterday's filming fun, I guess now's a good time to put the rest of our fun news out there.  When we stumbled into the entertainment industry almost two years ago now we had no idea what, if anything,  it would bring for the boys or our family.  But we figured we'd ride it out and see.  So far it has opened us up to some truly amazing experiences that the boys would have never had were it not for the opportunities of this business.  Before they turned 3 years old the boys had acted on the big screen, modeled in New York City, and lived in Los Angeles for a summer.  But there were also things we passed up out of uncertainty and fear- uncertainty and fear in the here and now- but also uncertainty and fear for what these things meant for the boys' future and our family's future.  Last summer the boys booked a recurring role on the new Tim Allen sitcom that just got renewed for its second season and just recently we passed up a big audition for a recurring role on a soap opera- both would have either required splitting up our family or moving to the Los Angeles area and we weren't ready to make such a big move.  We've had small twinges of regret at times, but we also know we made the right choices for our family.

And then the boys got another big opportunity- they were asked straight to callbacks for a GAP print shoot in LA, which is generally unheard of as they usually don't even consider out of state talent for such jobs.  So Jon and I were faced with another big decision- do we take the risk and fly out to LA for the callback or do we pass this one up too?  After a lot of talking and soul searching, we decided that we may never get an opportunity for print work like this again and that we didn't want to wake up someday wondering what would have happened.  So...  the boys and I are off to Los Angeles next week!  It's a big risk.  They are only guarenteed the callback audition- not a booking.  So there's a big chance we'll leave empty handed as far as work goes.  But that is okay.  After tiptoeing around in this business for nearly two years now, we're ready to find out if the boys can really do this- or want to.  They may get to their callback and throw a huge fit because they'd rather be playing at the park- and that's okay.  Or they may rock it and become the next face of Gap Kids  :)  I'm not sure how okay that is!  But either way, it will give us a good idea of what, if anything, to continue investing in these opportunities- and that is our main reason for giving this a shot.  That and the fact that we all miss California terribly- especially our wonderful family there!!!  So if nothing else it will be great to spend time with my aunt, uncle, and cousin and to visit some of the boys favorite spots that they still talk about often.  Sadly Jon can't take that much time off of work, so my mom will be traveling with me- which should be fun!  Especially because the uncle I have in LA is her brother and crazy things have been known to happen with that Smith family!  So cross your fingers for us and say a little prayer for safe travels and that the boys' callback works out just the way it is meant to work out  :)
