Summer!

Yesterday was the official start of summer for the Paddock Family  :)  It was Jon's last day of school and his students had a half day.  The boys and I just couldn't wait, so right after breakfast I loaded them up in the car and we made the hour long trek out to daddy's school in Clarkston (but not without a quick drive-through at Starbucks first).  I knew we'd be cutting it close and of course we get there about 4 minutes before the bell rings and 1300 junior high kids bum rush the hallways for their final escape...  but luckily daddy's principal saw us as the front door and he grabbed one of the boys for me and we all made a mad dash for daddy's classroom before all heck broke loose and we got trampled to death! Whew- we made it!  Daddy was unbelievably surprised to see us...  mission accomplished  :)  Or as Matthew likes to say, Daddy was "caught off guard"...  its his new favorite term.  Anyways, we got to help daddy clean up his classroom a little and then we all went out for lunch together.  It was the perfect start to our summer.  After lunch we dropped Jon off back at school so he could enter his final exam grades and the boys and I headed home for what was supposed to be nap time in the car.  Why is it that when you don't want them to nap in the car they do and when you do want them to they don't?  And of course I got the one thing that is worse than two no-napping toddlers, which is ONE no-napping toddler.  Just trust me on this one- its way worse!  Matthew finally crashed about half way home and got a good half hour nap while Caleb caught one heck of a second wind, singing to the radio the whole way home while I had wide-awake nightmares of what that sweet little boy was going to look like come 6:00pm.

Around 4:00, Jon sent us a text to say he was on his way home and summer could officially begin.  He called 15 seconds later when he realized that the boys and I drove home with his car keys.  Awesome.  Really awesome.  Thankfully my mother was able to run right over to stay with the boys so that I didn't have to load them up for another two hours in the car, but me myself and I got to enjoy those two hours all over again.  By 4:15 I was on my way back out to Clarkston right smack dab in the middle of Friday afternoon rush hour.

To top it all off, we were supposed to be having dinner with friends at 6:00pm.  And we were supposed to make an apple pie.  Yeah- not gonna happen.  By the time Jon and I got home it was 6:45.  We picked up a chocolate cake at the bakery and made it to dinner by 7:00.  Whew!  Luckily now that Jon's out of school and we're less than two weeks away from our trip, we need to start pushing the boys schedule back a little to get ready for California time.  We stayed out with our friends until 8:45 which was a special treat and although the boys were digging in the dirt the entire evening, we ran out of time for a bath when we got home. We had two exhausted, filthy from head to toe little boys and we put them to bed...  dirty little black feet and all.

Welcome summer...  we have been waiting for you!
