The market was a bit different than Eastern Market back home. There was tons of fresh fruits and veggies, but unlike Eastern Market, there were all sorts of food stands and little clothing shops... there was even a place that had goats! Not sure what for, but the boys enjoyed petting a tiny little goat named Pumpkin. But the biggest difference was the FRUIT! You have never eaten a strawberry until you eat one fresh in California! It was like a whole different experience. So for nearly two hours, we wove in and out of the fruit stands shoving our mouths full of fresh fruits- peaches, plums, oranges, blueberries, strawberries, blackberries, tangerines, melons- all the best we have ever tasted! If we stopped to ask what something was, they'd just cut you a slice! This one guy was selling all different kinds of melons and I swear he cut into at least five of them just so we could taste them all! The boys were so seriously sticky... it was a beautifully sweet sight :) Then I picked up some Pad Thai from the little Thai stand and Jon got a slice of New York style pizza and we sat down for a mid-morning lunch. Our sleep schedules seem to have adjusted to the time change, but for some reason our eating schedules haven't! We eat breakfast at 6:30 or so in the morning and then by 9:30 or 10:00am we're ready for lunch! So we all eat a little Michigan timed lunch in the middle of the morning and then lunch again at California lunch time! After lunch we went and walked Hollywood Boulevard for a bit and checked out some of the stars on the Walk of Fame. Its a neat place to be, with all of the famous buildings towering over you, but the smell of urine and homeless people make it slightly less appealing than the other quintessential LA places we've been thus far!
After quite a nap debacle (trying to nap in the pack 'n plays: Boys- 2 Exhausted Mommy and Daddy- 0), we headed up to my aunt and uncle's house for dinner. Poor Caleb was such a wreck when we got there, but he finally settled down when Jon taught him how to blob lemons off of a big exercise ball :) We had such an amazingly wonderful evening- a delicious dinner that was right u our alley, lots of fun with the lemons and grapefruits from the trees in their backyard, and lots of skateboarding in their driveway. The boys even ate the lemons and grapefruits... Matthew ate the grapefruit without so much as a face, and Caleb would make a sour face then go for another bite. Strange children! It was so nice to be able to just sit and visit with my aunt, uncle, and cousin while we all watched the boys play... we can't wait to do it again!
