My Little Crib Climber

Caleb has been able to climb in and out of his crib for months now.  The boys love to play in their cribs together...  on any given morning, I can find them dragging their basketball hoop to the edge or dumping an entire toy bin into one of their cribs and then they both happily scale the side and topple inside to play.  Its quite glorious really.  Many mornings I can sit there on their bedroom floor sipping my still hot coffee (ok- reheated coffee) and just enjoy the time that they are temporarily contained.

Why on earth Caleb has never used this special ability during nap or bedtime has always escaped me.  No pun intended.  Alright, maybe a little.  But on Tuesday he must have just been laying there quietly when a stroke of genius washed over him...  and in no time, there were two tiny toddler feet pitter pattering across the dining room where he stopped to proudly proclaim, "I'm wakin' up mama!"

I put him back in bed with a brief but stern lecture about how it was naptime and how mama had just dumped the entire contents of the bookshelf on the floor to reorganize the books and how mama desperately needed a break, even if that break would be spent trying to clean the house and how he desperately needed a nap because mama doesn't like when he wears his crabby pants in the evening.   About 10 minutes later I heard high pitched squeals and uncontrollable laughter.  There are two sounds, and two sounds only that can frighten a mother of twins beyond belief.  Silence and uncontrollable laughter.  Terrified of what my little monsters might be up to, I rushed in to find Caleb straddling his crib and his brothers and fumbling with the zipper on Matthew's crib tent while trying to say, "You get out Matthew!" except that they were both laughing too hard for it to be very clear!  Repeat lecture about how mommy will have to take a long vacation to the looney bin and how they might get to visit on Tuesday evenings of both of them don't start napping again.

Another few minutes pass and I hear a scream.  Running in, I found Caleb straddling the two cribs but I could already see the bruise under his right eye.  Once I got him calmed down, both of them told me that Matthew had pushed him and he fell and hit his face on Matthew's crib.  UGH.  Luckily it didn't turn out as badly as I thought it was going to be...  but now we're two full days out and its starting to turn nice shades of purple and green.  Throw in the unidentified 103 degree fever he had all afternoon and evening yesterday, and this is one pretty pathetic looking little boy!
