While we were leaving the skate park, the firefighters across the street were washing one of their ladder trucks outside of the fire station so we stopped to take a look. Much to our surprise, one of the firefighters took us on a tour of the station and let the boys climb around in one of the trucks! Super cool! Two thumbs up for the LAFD!
Ever since we went to New York City and got this book called "123 NYC", the boys have been obsessed with black and white cookies. When we first landed in Los Angeles Caleb said, "Hey, I got an idea! Let's get a black and white cookie in California!" We didn't know if we'd be able to find such a thing here, but Jon spent a good 20 minutes on the iPad and located a bakery right next to the skate park that had rave reviews on their black and white cookies! Jackpot! So we surprised the boys and the pure joy on their faces was just amazing. Even the little old lady in the bakery was so happy to see how excited they were :)
Then came the fun part of the day- our first attempt at nap time in the pack 'n plays. Bedtime has gone unbelievably smooth thus far, but today was our first nap. Epic. Fail. After an hour and a half we gave up. I wanted to stay home because I knew that the second we got in the car to go somewhere they'd both be out faster than two fat kids in dodgeball, but Jon insisted that we could make it to Costco which is about 2 miles down the road. He was right. We managed to make it TO the store. Making it THROUGH the store however was a totally different story! Caleb fell asleep sitting up in the cart while trying (unsuccessfully) to eat a tortilla chip. So Jon laid his head down on our 2 pound bag of coffee, after which Matthew promptly joined him. Literally every single person we passed in the store stopped and gave a chuckle!!! A few even caught the irony of the coffee pillow :) Poor tired little California boys!
Which brings me to my latest little heartbreak. Anyone reading this has to know our Big Boy Bed Debacle of 2011 and my solemn vow to keep the boys in cribs until they leave for college. Don't laugh. I'm not joking. Not even a teensy bit! But tonight Matthew insisted on sleeping in the little boy's bed in the room they are staying in :/ We explained a million and one times that the very first time he got out of bed he would go straight back into the pack 'n play (which was a really awesome threat, being that he can get out of that thing faster than a NASCAR pit crew can change a tire)... and we figured within seconds he'd be out and running around like a banshee. But 20 minutes have gone by and he's still in there. In fact, its starting to get real quiet so there's a good chance one if not both are falling asleep. Yesterday it was the car seats. Today might be our first successful night in big boy beds. I'm not sure what they have in the water out here, but its making my little boys grow up much, much too fast for this mama!!!
