This morning we made a return to Venice Beach for Alex's surfing lesson. But first we... drum roll please... hit the skate park! The boys skated for TWO hours straight! They are animals!!! They are totally loving their pads. They know they can skate more aggressively because it won't hurt so much when they wipe out. And I think they just love how the big kids cheer for them when they crash. I think the older kids totally expect them to come up crying, but instead they get up grinning ear to ear and yell "Hall of Meat!!" and then the older kids laugh! I really need to take a picture of their little shins. They are so unbelievably black and blue, you've got to see it to believe it! I'm kind of afraid to take them out in public wearing shorts because I don't want someone to call CPS on us! They are two tough little cookies. They even got recognized for the first time :) There was a guy there who came up to me to ask if the boys were skating at NoHo the other day and when I said that we have been there a few times he said "Oh my gosh, I saw them and I was telling my girlfriend all about how cool they were when I got home!" LOL!
So after two full hours in the skate park we had to pull them away to go check out Alex on his surfboard. Alex was so awesome... he was catching waves right away! Between the skate parks and the surfing, he just might refuse to get on the plane to go home tomorrow! He'd better hope the boys book a job that keeps us out here a bit longer or brings us back at some point so he can fly back out! While Alex surfed the boys just dug, dug, dug in the sand. I think if we left them out there long enough they'd dig themselves a hold to China. Maybe that will be our next summer adventure- we could save a lot on airfare. Alex took his surf lesson with the same guy Jon did, so we took him out to lunch with us after and he took us to this cool local sandwich shop and a place that serves something I forgot the name of but its from El Salvador and it was SO good! He invited Jon and I and the boys over for a bbq on Sunday. He seems like quite a fascinating guy... he's 31 years old, from Hawaii, speaks 4 or 5 languages, and has been to over 30 countries! I think we might go :) I hope maybe he can rub off on the boys a little and that someday they'll get to travel even half as much as he has!
Not willing to lost another round of the nap battle, Jon and I drove around so the boys could sleep in the car. We drove past the Fantasy Factory in downtown LA and then through some of the neighborhoods near our condo in Sherman Oaks.
In the evening we tried to go up to Griffith Park but it was quite a debacle. We couldn't find anywhere to meet up with my parents and Alex because the streets were either very poorly marked or just flat out closed! My parents made it up to the observatory but by the time we finally got up there, there was no where to park so we just bailed. Took the boys to the park instead!
Well- time to say goodbye to my parents and Alex. We've had such a great time while they've been here and we're so glad that they got to come out and share in this adventure with us! Please cross your fingers that the boys adjust well to Alex being gone. I know its going to be so hard for them, but I hope they can bounce back and enjoy the second half of our trip!!
